6 days over due, but finally they are here! Mama’s doing fine as well. It was a worry for us as she behaved in a manner that preludes birth for 2 weeks, while simultaneously sitting on her tail. We sat in prepared to assist should she have become distressed. Great relief came while watching the camera at 4am as she finally settled down and started delivery 2 hours later. Whew!
We wanted to get this update out for those wondering what’s going on. We don’t have a count yet, but it looks like approximately 20 babies and we hit on every possibility. Even though the litter was passed their due date, some of the babies were tiny, and there were a few premies. Just goes to show that things don’t always go to plan and mother knows best. Explaining why she sat on her tail till the very end. There was one stillborn and 8 slugs as well. We are working to see how the little ones do and will provide a count and update soon.
